Classical Design

Designing in the Classical Style, as seen especially in the Renaissance and Neoclassical periods, may be more specific than many people realize. The use of ancient Greek and Roman architectural details have become a hallmark of formal style, training and development. The use of columns, cornices and semi-circular arches, all in proportions approaching the “Golden Ratio” gives a work the flavor of balance and integrity.

Although much has been written about the Golden Ratio, the math is not strictly necessary if the spirit is reflected in the layout. It is the feeling of those ancient buildings that can be the guide if studied and reproduced in practice.
